Jerome Price
The Quick Shooting Cowboy
A little boy imitating John Wayne in Rio Lobo grew up to become the World Champion and record holder as the fastest in a double balloon series. Jerome's uncontested world record was set at Annie Oakley Days in Greenville Ohio in 2001. In April 2005 Jerome won the National Quick draw Championship in Claremore, Oklahoma during the Wild West Arts Club Convention. Fast draw is the art of reacting to a signal, drawing, firing, and hitting a target with a single action revolver using a "full-powder" blank or wax bullet. A timing clock gives the shooter a random two to five second delay before turning on the target light. When the light comes on the shooter grabs the gun, draws it out of the holster, cocks the hammer, and pulls the trigger to fire the gun at the target. The target is a balloon or metal target shot from 5 to 25 feet.
